HOW LONG DOES A WRINKLE RELAXING INJECTION TREATMENT TAKE?
Wrinkle relaxing injections take just 10 to 15 minutes to administer.
WILL THE TREATMENT HURT?
People often compare the sensation of having wrinkle reducing injections to a mild insect bite, but tell us that it is a surprisingly comfortable procedure.
The needles we use are very fine and we only use tiny amounts of the product, which is why it is such a quick and largely pain-free treatment. If you are worried about how the injections will feel, you can opt to have an anaesthetic cream applied to your skin approximately half an hour before your treatment to numb your skin.
IS ONE TREATMENT ENOUGH TO SHOW RESULTS?
Absolutely. Just one 10-minute procedure can help to subtlety achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance. As the effects of the treatment are temporary, people usually find that three treatments a year are required to maintain the desired aesthetic effects. After receiving injections regularly over many years the treatment effects tend to last longer.
HOW QUICKLY SHOULD I SEE THE RESULTS?
It can take up to 10 days for your treatment with wrinkle reducing injections to take effect and for the results to be fully obvious.
ARE WRINKLE REDUCING INJECTIONS SAFE?
In the hands of an experienced medical professional, wrinkle reducing injections are incredibly safe and backed by years of proven use and clinical studies. However, it is important to be aware of the potential side effects (see below), which we will discuss in detail with you during your initial consultation.
We only ever deliver injections from a single-use vial using single-use needles to ensure that you receive treatment with a product that is fresh, undiluted and free from risk of contamination.
WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL SIDE EFFECTS?
The most common side effects associated with wrinkle reducing injections are a small amount of temporary bleeding or mild swelling at the injection site. Some people do bruise, especially if they have a treatment near their eye area, which is more delicate. However, this bruising usually subsides quickly and can be covered easily with make-up. You may also experience a mild headache after your treatment.
In rarer cases worldwide, people have reported double vision, and occasionally there have been cases where – after a forehead treatment – people have experienced drooping of the upper eyelid. In experienced hands, this happens in less than one percent of patients and will usually resolve within two to ten weeks. There is an eye drop that can speed up the recovery process if this effect occurs, but we haven’t had to deal with this issue at Medikaur Skin & Aesthetics.
IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD DO/NOT DO AFTER WRINKLE REDUCING INJECTIONS?
When you come in to Medikaur Skin & Aesthetics for wrinkle reducing injections, we will give you detailed aftercare instructions. It’s important that you follow our recommendations to enjoy the full benefit of your treatment.
We may recommend that you:
Actively contract and use the muscles in the treated area by alternately smiling and frowning; there is some evidence that this helps to speed up the absorption of the nerve blocking product
Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for several hour
Avoid vigorous exercise
Contact us immediately if you experience any drooping of the eyelid or notice unwanted changes to your eyebrow position
CAN ANYONE ADMINISTER WRINKLE REDUCING INJECTIONS?
Wrinkle reducing injections use Prescription-Only Medication (POM), which can only be authorised for us by a qualified medical professional such as a doctor, surgeon, independent nurse prescriber or dentist. An aesthetician can administer the injections, but only if the treatment is approved by someone suitably qualified.
