A TARGETED MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMME TAILORED TO YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS

Are you struggling to lose weight and don’t know where to go for medically-proven advice, support and treatment?

Losing weight can be surprisingly hard, even when you’ve been working hard to make a change. While there is the basic principle that we need to consume fewer calories than we burn, the reality is that weight loss can be more complicated. Your genetics, hormones, lifestyle, sleep, health and emotions can all play their part. There is so much conflicting advice in the public domain that it can be overwhelming.

We aim to take you from overwhelmed to in control of your weight loss journey.

Medikaur is a Certified Partner of the National Medical Weight Loss Programme because we believe that medical options can be used to support weight loss, if done so alongside correct advice about nutrition, exercise and lifestyle changes.

The key to success is accessing a targeted plan that’s designed around your life and your body.

THE NATIONAL MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMME FAQS

HOW DOES THE NATIONAL MEDICAL WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMME WORK?

The first step with the National Medical Weight Loss Programme is to complete an initial online consultation so we can find out more about the factors that could be affecting your weight loss journey.

You will then come into the clinic for a face-to-face consultation and assessment with our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, Jane Paterson. Jane will carry out a comprehensive body composition analysis of your fat, fluid, bone and muscle weight. She will also weigh you and take crucial measurements.

By having a complete picture of your body composition and talking to you about your current diet, activity levels and weight loss struggles, Jane will then be able to put together a targeted weight loss programme for you. This is likely to include nutritional and exercise advice as well as a weight-loss injection prescription if you’re a suitable candidate.

You will administer the weight loss injections at home using a special pre-filled prescription pen. Jane will teach you how to do this. You will also have a healthy lifestyle plan to follow.

You will need to attend the clinic every four weeks for Jane to track your progress, update your plan and renew your prescription.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE

Treatment under the National Medical Weight Loss Programme can usually be continued until you reach your target weight.

Even a five per cent weight loss can lower your risk of developing diabetes, heart disease or cancer. It can also lower your blood pressure and cholesterol and improve any osteoarthritic pain or obstructive sleep apnoea.

HOW MANY APPOINTMENTS WILL I NEED?

The number of appointments you need, as well as the frequency and dose of any medication, will depend on your individual case. Our Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner will be able to give you a much clearer idea of what to expect when you’ve had your initial face-to-face consultation.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS AND WILL THE RESULTS LAST?

Weight loss injections reduce your hunger and make you feel full and satisfied for longer. They will only work in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical exercise.

The aim of the National Medical Weight Loss Programme is to help you lose weight at a healthy and steady rate. As with any weight management programme, achieving lasting results depends on you maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.

ARE WEIGHT LOSS INJECTIONS SAFE?

Weight loss injections are deemed safe for suitable candidates according to clinical data. However, it’s important that they’re only administered by licenced, qualified practitioners.

Risks and side-effects are generally minimal but it’s always important to be fully informed; we will discuss these with you before you make any decisions.

It’s common to experience nausea and/or an upset stomach when you first begin the course of treatment. Most people find the symptoms settle within a few weeks. These side effects can be caused by eating too much or the wrong types of foods, so we may advise you to try some further dietary changes to manage these symptoms.

Absolute contraindications include the following:

  • Personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma

  • Personal history of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2)

  • Hypersensitivity to the product components

  • Pregnancy

Your suitability will be assessed following a full consultation and pre-treatment assessment with our Advanced Nurse Practitioner.
